My passion for creation

The sport that shaped my journey to the Olympics is swimming. It requires a lot of mental and physical discipline because an elite swimmer will train at least 9 times a week in the water, with each session lasting 2 hours plus 3 gym sessions a week with an additional 3 stretching sessions for 45 minutes, and finally, 2 weekly physiotherapy and massage sessions for recovery. This story will cover a week’s training in more detail as well as my sponsors Phoenix beverages that have supported my swimming four at least 5 years now. Thus, once again the support from Phoenix beverages has allowed me to break through a new barrier and create history together. 2017 we made history together for Mauritius by being the first Mauritian to go under 23 seconds for the 50m freestyle at the world champs in Budapest. We came back trained harder and this year we have achieved some incredible feats. The Commonwealth games in Australia that took place in April 2018 would be our greatest moment in swimming history going under 50 seconds for the 100m freestyle and going even faster in the 50m freestyle and all this is thanks to the support by Phoenix Bev which has allowed me to do my training and conditioning in best possible environment. Furthermore as a part of my swimming or that of any pro-athletes career it is very important to have a public image especially if you want to keep your current sponsors interested and possibly inviting new sponsors to invest into your dream thus on the social media side I have definitely improved my cooperation with my sponsors by taking advantage of my international competitions which have reflected great returns on my social media page going up from 5000 page likes to more than 6000 in the past year furthermore key data insights of 2017 taken from my personal athlete page  (below) VS the key data insights of 2018.

Below Key data insights of 2018

compares the difference between 2017 and 2018 my content engagement has dramatically increased over the last 6 months with post engagements increased by 324% moreover my page has increased by 444% this is significant difference compared to 2017. Last year’s objective was to try and keep the content engagement high and start increasing the number of likes on my page looking at these insights it has been accomplished with my page also reaching up to 6200+ likes from the previous year of only 5000 this is probably in connection with the Phoenix Beverages’ social page being connected with mine during the time of Commonwealth Games in 2018 the initiative of  the little games played where fans had to guess my times for each of my races has complimented both social media pages with just one of the videos reaching approximately 22,907 views.  The next question is there room for improvement? Yes, definitely there is room for improvement looking at the insight of my 100m freestyle video race we can see the margin to attain more social media engagement is high.

The final chapter of my journey is where I am today and why my mindset about swimming has evolved so much for this 2020 Olympic cycle compared to the previous Olympic cycle. Therefore, this will lead to where I am going to go with my swimming for the next two final years of my professional swimming career. The table below indicates my swimming progress over the last 2 years. The blue line represents all my 50m freestyle times that were taken at major swimming Long Course 50m events between 2017 and 2018. The grey dots on the green line represent the 8th place swimmer in the finals of each of those events. These last two years of performances have put me on the world stage of swimming especially my 50m freestyle time swum at the recent Commonwealth games in a time of 22.50 according to the results of the previous world champs that time would have placed me in 28th place that’s an improvement of 15 places from my previous 43rd  I have made tremendous strides in the past year together my coach and I. The orange line represents all my 100m freestyle times at these major swimming events and the yellow dots once again represent the 8th swimmer in the finals. Thus I believe in the next years leading up to 2020 I will stand a good chance of participating in a finals at a world event.
